There are nearly 10,000 properties across Gwynedd and Anglesey that currently do not have access to Superfast Broadband. Many of these properties have neighbours who are connected, or are in remote locations. Half of a village can be connected, yet across the road nobody can get a reasonable connection speed.
With the arrival of Covid-19 for those of us whose job could be done from home as well as their workplace, the availability of superfast Broadband suddenly became essential. A problem that has affected small businesses, farms and students has become even more prominent in people’s minds. The ability to be able to video conference, learn online, share documents or just enjoy iplayer or netflix are simply not an option for too many homes and businesses with low speed broadband connections.
As part of the WG Connected Communities programme 21 communities represented by 10 separate clusters have been identified across Gwynedd and Anglesey. Communities that had no access to Superfast Broadband, but where their location and the landscape that they were set in potentially made the delivery of Superfast services technically and financially viable if sufficient households and businesses signed up and supported getting Superfast Broadband installed themselves with the financial support of the Welsh Government & their Local Authority.
Connected Communities was scheduled to run a number of community workshops with people and businesses across the identified communities in order to:
- explain the project and how a solution might work,
- learn more about how their problem(s) and for us to be able to gauge the level of support. address concerns and where there was a desire to progress,
- find some members of the community that wanted to progress with producing a tender document and for us to provide these communities with the support to go out to tender for superfast Broadband provision as a community.
To learn more about each cluster of communities please select the main menu icon or go to the footer. Each community’s page provides information on the areas and affected properties with information on how to test your own line and if your speed is less than 20Mbps confirm whether your property is not part of phase 2a rollout. There is a form for each cluster of communities which allows you to register your interest in your community putting together a tender and getting superfast broadband setup. If your community in Gwynedd or Anglesey isn’t on the list and you currently are not able to receive Superfast Broadband please go to the Welsh Government’s website that does provide options for what options are available to you here https://gov.wales/broadband-in-wales/what-are-my-options
